Elizabeth (Lizzie) Trew is a multi-disciplinary Pitjantjatjara and Arrernte artist based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) with her practices encompassing painting, digital art, sculpture, and performance. Lizzie understands her strengths as how they manifest into physical phenomena – flames, electricity, ice and connectivity. She feels these things emanate from her and give her super-human powers. Like many aspects of technology, some of her powers are not able to be seen in a tangible sense, but they are able to change and shift minds and environments.
In Bindi’s Digital Art Program Lizzie makes digital collages layered with digital drawings and paintings. Sometimes still, sometimes moving, Lizzie’s work has often focused on the powers she has, and she expresses the phenomenal aspects of the world and how she interacts with it.
She also often depicts circular forms, representative of planets that she either imagines or visits. These motifs are also very present in her painting practice which she exercises at Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists Studio where she has been employed for many years.
Lizzie also performs with the stArts With D ensemble in a number of programs and productions facilitated by Incite Arts where she is given power to performatively explore connections to culture, language, stories, song and dance.
“I remember and imagine things, and then I paint them. When I imagine something I make it real.”
