Since he was a young boy, Lance has painted the horses that occupied his country and memories of his childhood. His affinity with the horse is particularly evident, into which he imbues great movement, strength and grace. His familiarity with his subject matter allows him to capture the essence of a lifestyle long gone. There is a beautiful Lance James painting available in the gallery if you’d like to visit! BINDI MAGIC...approaching soon! On Sunday the 8th of September, Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists will be opening their annual group exhibition, Bindi Magic. It showcases the latest and finest artworks from the Bindi artists; from artists who are well-renowned and have painted at Bindi for over 20 years, and from others who are new, exciting and emerging. Bindi Mwerre Anthurre art portrays the essence, beauty and humour of Central Australia. Each artwork is a reflection of the life and surrounds of the region as seen, known and loved by the artists. Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists studio has been operating since 2000 for Indigenous artists living with disabilities. The studio provides a means for artist to pursue and nourish their artistic practices. The Mwerre Anthurre Artists hail from communities across the Central Desert region – from Kaltukatjara (Docker River) to Yuendumu – yet most reside in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). ‘Yalpirakinu’ by Adrian Jangala Robertson | 91.7 x 91.5cm ✨ A finalist in this years Wynne Prize for @artgalleryofnsw ‘This artwork portrays Adrian Jangala Robertson’s mother’s country, Yalpirakinu, located north-west of Mparntwe/Alice Springs. Yalpirakinu is also referred to as Yuelamu. Robertson consistently paints this site to maintain his deep connection to the earth and engage with memories of family by documenting the desert mountains, ridges and trees. Working with a restricted colour palette, Robertson loads his brushwork with energy. He pushes and pulls his colour, reworking the image until it is complete. The influence of his mentor, the late Billy Benn Perrurle, is particularly evident within this painting. Recently, Robertson has been experimenting with depicting Yalpirakinu within a frame, as if he is looking through a window and viewing Country from afar. Robertson is a long-standing member of Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists, working through the studio since 2002. Adrian and Julie have a strong connection despite the distance between their homes in Yuendumu and Mparntwe. When they do manage to see each other in Yuendumu, they spend time painting together at the art centre. Using a restricted palette, Robertson captures his connection to Country and family through brushwork that is loaded with energy, drama and memories. His distinctive style captures his family and the desert mountains, ridges and trees of his mother’s Country, Yalpirakinu, also known as Yuelamu, north-west of Mparntwe. It's a BIG day for Adrian Jangala Robertson!! Adrian is a finalist in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prize..one of only two artists who got accepted in all three prizes. Adrian is one of the 57 selected from a pool of 1,005 entries for the Archibald Prize & one of 21 Aboriginal artists in the running for the Wynne — making it a record number of First Nations finalists! Last few days to catch the ‘Bindi Men – Our Desert Stories’ at the @vivienandersongallery in St Kilda, Melbourne.   This exhibition showcases the artworks of 3 Bindi Artists, who come from differing communities across the Central Desert, Northern Territory. Each artist paints intimate depictions of country, people, and significant memories to reconnect when they aren’t able to be on country with family. Charles Inkamala focuses on the detailed line work of the landscapes to paint significant cultural sites, “Snake and Moon dreaming. My grandmothers’ country. That’s our dreamings. Big Lore. That’s our place”.   The exhibition closes this Saturday the 16th of March, with a closing celebration - last drinks (and an artist talk by Kent Morris) from 2 – 4pm.

Adrian’s mother is the late Eunice Napangardi, a well known painter herself. His artworks consistently refer to the desert mountains, ridges and trees which are part of Yalpirakinu. Bindi Magic is back! ✨ Join us for the opening of this special annual event, showcasing the latest and finest artworks from the Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists. Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists studio has been operating since 2000 for Indigenous artists living with disabilities. The studio provides a means for artists to pursue and nourish their artistic practices. The artists hail from communities across the Central Desert Region - from Kaltukatjara (Docker River) to Yuendumu - with most residing in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). You will see works from well-renowned artists who have painted at Bindi for over 20 years, from others who are new, exciting and emerging. There’ll be refreshments provided by @realitybitescatering while @honkytonk.disco.au plays all our studio country classics 🌞 see you there!
