Adrian Robertson

Artist | Supported Employee

Adrian has been painting with the Bindi Mwerre Anthurre Artists Studio since 2002 where he has grown his professional art practice to great heights. Adrian was born in Papunya to a family of artists amongst the early Western Desert painting movement. He paints from memories of family and landscapes from Yalpirakinu, his mother’s country, through a variety of mediums. He is a prolific and thoughtful painter; reworking, pushing and pulling the image to completion.

An accomplished artist, Adrian has exhibited nationally and internationally. In 2020 he won the NATSIAA General Painting Award, and more recently he won the Artist of the Year, Mparntwe NAIDOC awards (2021), and The Alice Prize, National Contemporary Australian Art Award (2022). In 2022 he was a finalist in the Hadley Art Prize and Sulman Prize. In 2024 he continues to amaze us with international travel to his solo exhibition at the Rebecca Hossack Art Gallery in London as well as featuring his works in the Archibald Prize, Sir Sulman Prize and the Wynne Prize at the Art Gallery of NSW. He was one of two artists selected in all three prizes!
